چکیده

A common machine vision task is to verify that a product has been properly fabricated or assembled. In the following paper, a vision system is described for confirming that a type of gear has been processed properly. The main problem in this application is the relatively large depth of the gear which results in a more complex image than the desired silhouette of the part. The resulting image shows a portion of the inner wall due to the varying magnification because some points on this wall are closer to the lens than others. Employing telecentric optics, however, greatly simplifies the problem since only light rays parallel to the optical axis create the image so that a good silhouette of the part is obtained. Gear teeth can then be isolated using mathematical morphology techniques to verify that the part has been properly broached.

Telecentric Optics for Computational Vision

An optical approach to constant-magniication imaging is described. Magniication variations due to changes in focus setting pose problems for pertinent vision techniques, such as, depth from defocus. It is shown that magniication of a conventional lens can be made invariant to defocus by simply adding an aperture at an analytically derived location. The resulting optical connguration is called \...

Telecentric Optics for Focus Analysis

Magnification variations due to changes in focus setting pose problems for vision techniques, such as, depth from focus and defocus. The magnification of a conventional lens can be made invariant to defocus by simply adding an aperture at an analytically derived location. The resulting optical configuration is called “telecentric.” It is shown that most commercially available lenses can be turn...

Telecentric suppression of diffuse light in imaging of highly anisotropic scattering media.

The telecentric lens, which was originally used in the machine vision industry, has often been utilized in biomedical imaging systems due to its commonly known properties, such as large transverse field of view, constant magnification, and long working distance. However, its potential advantages in optical imaging of biological tissue, which is highly diffusive, have not been fully explored. We...

Estimation of Baseline of Single Camera Stereo Vision Based on an Inspiration from SFF

Computation Stereo Vision is a widely researched technique in the fi eld of computer vision for scene reconstruction. One of the main issues to be addressed in stereo vision is the trade-off that needs to be achieved between accuracy and resolution. A wide-baseline offers better resolution in depth estimated, contrarily a narrow baseline though offers good accuracy but suffers from poor depth r...

Formalizing UML for Rigorous Software Development

Formalizing a modeling technique broaches issues including development of software specification, design, analysis, and synthesis. Software engineering methodologies should be grounded on rigorous principles and not on ad hoc approaches. Our approach is to integrate the recently published industrial standard graphic notation UML (Unified Modeling Language), for object-oriented modeling, and PVS...
